Four things actually worth knowing
With real citations. This is the part we'd like you to remember.
Am I normal?
Almost certainly, yes. Clinically measured averages sit at 13–14 cm erect, and the spread is narrow: most men fall close to it. Self-reported figures, including most of the country data on this page, run 1–2 cm high, which is why the internet has made everyone feel small. Partners consistently rank length low among things that matter.
If this genuinely distresses you, a doctor beats a search engine.
Veale et al. 2015, BJU Int · NHS · Mayo ClinicWhat condom size do I need?
The one actionable number here. Condoms are sized by nominal width, which is half the flat circumference, and a poor fit is why they slip or break. A good fit is 5–20 % narrower than your flat width: measure around, halve it, go 5–20 % under. For the average circumference (11.7 cm) that lands at 49–56 mm. Standard stock is 52–54 mm; specialist ranges run 45–69 mm.
Nominal width per ISO 4074 · calculation in the methodDoes anything sold for enlargement work?
No. Pills and creams do nothing. Stretching devices and jelqing do nothing except, occasionally, injury. Pumps produce a temporary effect only. Surgery is explicitly advised against for men in the normal range, which is almost everyone reading this. What does measurably help: losing abdominal fat and cardiovascular health.
European Association of Urology · Mayo ClinicWhat should I actually be checking?
Your testicles, once a month. Testicular cancer is the most common solid tumour in men aged 15–34, has a survival rate around 95 % overall and about 99 % when caught while still localized, and is usually found by the man himself. After a warm shower, roll each one gently between thumb and fingers; you are feeling for a hard, painless lump. A new lump, swelling, or a persistent dull ache: see a doctor that week, not that quarter.
The full case, the technique, and the annual moustache: why you should check yourself.
