Free, open, and honestly licensed. Which is exactly why you cannot download it quite yet.
Why is there no download button?
The 119 figures currently on the site are the internet's claims, matching the widely republished worlddata.info compilation, and we do not own that collection. Individual facts are free, but republishing someone else's collected dataset wholesale is a different matter: in the EU, database rights can protect substantial extractions from a collection even when each fact in it is not protected. Offering files under an open licence we have no right to grant would be exactly the kind of sloppiness this site exists to tease. So the honest move is the boring one: no bulk download until the data is ours to give.
What will be published, and when?
The re-sourced register. For every country: the mean, the original study, the year, the sample size, the measurement method, and a grade from A to D, as described on the method and sources page. That dataset will be our own compilation and documentation, released as CSV and JSON under CC BY, free for any use with attribution. Population figures derive from UN World Population Prospects, which permits use with attribution.
Can I help?
Yes. If you know a national study we should read, particularly an original paper hiding behind one of the famous maps, send it over via the about page. Contributors who help trace a source get credited in the register.
